So you want to learn Dutch?

Easier then you might think! First you must buy a Tomtom..and then, while you are setting it up, when asked to choose the language, disconnect it from your pc. Voila! Dutch!Actually, voila is French. But I can tell you in just 2 short days I learned some commonly used Dutch terms as I attempted to trouble shoot and navigate my way back to the English Language.

JA? means "YES" and NEE means...you guessed it, "NO." "What?" my daughter asked...why did you hook it up to the computer? Just touch the screen and answer the questions!"
'That's the problem..all the questions are in Dutch!"
"Ben je daar zeker van?"
" Ja, I'm sure! SO since I cannot figure out how to reset the language, Ik probeer Nederlands te leren."
"Nee, you don't have to learn Dutch, let me see it!" She grabbed it, tapped, "Ja" and kept tapping away until she got to the ULA and handed it back to me. "Ik begrijp het niet " I don't understand, either. I uninstalled the software, I reinstalled the software, I looked through the FAQ's, I reset the language in the software. Dutch is not going to work.

Why Dutch? ...Dutch is spoken by everyone in the Netherlands, parts of Belguim and France...over 17 million people. AND after a little investigating, it appears the Tomtom originated in the Netherlands, and is a Dutch company. Who knew?

If you want to see a little more, check out this youtube video clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-Nk2IQ8hes Oh, and did you know one of the founders was a woman? Because, well, we all know women will actually stop and ask for directions, rather than drive aimlessly for hours on end hoping to end up at their destination.

So back to my story. "Try resetting the device." Nope, that didn't work. Still Dutch. So one more time back to the tomtom.com support page. What do I want to do? I want to change the language on my device. And there it is. It's a good thing the Tomtom meun has little icons with a description on the website, because in the Netherlands, their wrench looks way different than ours. Menu...tools.....and there's the American Flag! Hooray for the good ol' USA!

So now my Tomtom speaks to me in English....I have learned a couple Dutch words, just in case I ever go to Aruba, and I know a little bit more about the tomtom. In case you need to know.
